Kenya will be conducting a total of 11 ward and 1 parliamentary by-elections on 28 November 2011 - across the country. As part of the mentoring programme, I am with 5 of the TtF semi-accredited Kenya team doing their field work conducting training in prep
aration for these by-elections. These will be the 1st by-elections conducted under the recently sworn in Commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) under the leadership of Mr. Ahmed Issack Hassan (Chairman), Ms. Lilian Bokeeye Mahiri- Zaja, Ms. Muthoni Wangai, Mr. Albert Bwire, Ms. Kule Galma Godana, Mr. Abdullahi Sharawe, Mr. Mohammed Alawi Hassan, Mr. Thomas Letangule and Amb. Yusuf Nzibo.

IFES seeks to build South Sudan electoral decision making skills and administration capacity during the transitional period following independence. At the same time, IFES will build capacity of its internal national program team to provide additional advi
sory resources to national institutions and counterparts. IFES will accomplish these goals by conducting a series of training workshops targeting appropriate groups of electoral stakeholders. IFES recommends the BRIDGE (Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections) program as a successful platform for delivering the relevant electoral training events.
The training will consist of two back to back BRIDGE modular trainings of 5 days each. The primary training recipients shall be key members of the former Sothern Sudan Referendum Bureau (SSRB) staff. Additionally, representatives of the following groups will also be invited to participate:
Previous electoral management body staff – central and state levels
Southern Sudan Center for Census, Statistics and Evaluation (SSCCSE) personnel
Political party members
Law making representatives
Civil Society Organization members
This training funded by the United States Aid Agency (USAID) will be facilitated by the following BRIDGE facilitators:
