Kenya will be conducting a total of 11 ward and 1 parliamentary by-elections on 28 November 2011 - across the country. As part of the mentoring programme, I am with 5 of the TtF semi-accredited Kenya team doing their field work conducting training in preparation for these by-elections.  These will be the 1st by-elections conducted under the recently sworn in Commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) under the leadership of Mr. Ahmed Issack Hassan (Chairman), Ms. Lilian Bokeeye Mahiri- Zaja, Ms. Muthoni Wangai, Mr. Albert Bwire, Ms. Kule Galma Godana, Mr. Abdullahi Sharawe, Mr. Mohammed Alawi Hassan, Mr. Thomas Letangule and Amb. Yusuf Nzibo.

This program is organized by IEC of Afghanistan and fiancially supported by TAF  , the mean objective of this program is increase the IEC staff knowledg on boundary delimitation and electoral contestants. Finland+ funded BRIDGE workshop in Mozambique Dec 02 (customised)

Between October and December 2002 International IDEA in a joint project with Mozambique’s Electoral Administration Technical Secretariat (STAE) conducted three 2-week capacity building training courses for STAE national and provincial electoral administrators. One training session was held in each of the geographic zones of Mozambique: Nampula with participants from the north, Manica, with participants from the centre and Maputo City from the south. 77 STAE personnel participated in the training, representing all provinces, levels and departments within STAE. The training materials and teaching methodology used have been developed in a project called the BRIDGE Project (Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections). The project, a co-operation between International IDEA, the United Nations and the Australian Electoral Commission has developed a comprehensive training-curriculum for electoral administrators. This BRIDGE curriculum was adapted (and translated into Portuguese) to make a 10 day course used in Mozambique. The objective of the training course is to enhance the competency and professionalism of the election administration through the used of applied adult learning techniques and a comprehensive course content.  The Project Outputs were: 77 STAE National and Provincial staff trained and issued with a Certificate of Completion 2 National STAE personnel trained as trainers and accredited as BRIDGE facilitators 10 day capacity-building training course designed and translated into Portuguese Each participant received a folder with course materials course modules containing theory, practice and resources relating to each electoral administration topic The Project Outcomes were: The capacity and professional development and of national and provincial permanent STAE electoral administrators was enhanced through training. The training skills of 2 STAE National Staff for the Department of Training and Civic Education were enhanced by attending the BRIDGE international “Train the Trainers’” Course “in Stockholm The National STAE is committed to adopting the BRIDGE Training methodology to improve operational training for the local election in 2003 and the general elections in 2004 The cost of the project was USD 142,912. Funding for the project was provided by the Embassies of Finland in Mozambique and Denmark in Mozambique. The Danish contribution was USD 113,478 and the Finish contribution was EURO 30,000 (USD 29,433)
