Gorée Institute, the ACE and BRIDGE hub for West Africa organised a BRIDGE Training of Trainers (TtF) for West African Civil Society from June 27th to July 8th 2011. The event took place on the Island of Gorée, in Senegal.
The main objectives of the training were:
- Establish a pool of 14 CSO trainers to support capacity building programs in West Africa;
- Strengthen the position of Gorée Institute as the ACE and BRIDGE hub for West Africa.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Doudou Dia (General Manager of Gorée Institute) stressed the importance of having a pool of French speaking BRIDGE trainers to support the development of the curriculum in French. He also explained that Gorée Institute is going to continue building the capacities of West African civil society with the continuous support of partner organisations and donors.
The training was funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and brought together participants from Senegal, Niger, Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, Mali and Togo.
Pathé Dieng (Director of Operations of Guinea's Electoral Commission), Véronique Idiema Kando (Vice President of Burkina Faso's Electoral Commission), Amadou Ciré Sall (Former Secretary General of Senegal's Electoral Commission) and Ibrahima Amadou Niang were the facilitators for the TtF.
At the end of the training 14 participants received their certificate of semi-accreditation. In addition, two facilitators: Pathé Dieng and Véronique Idiema Kando received their certificate of accreditation to become Workshop Facilitators.
