Civic Education for Illiterate Voters in Tunisia

Within the support provided to the Tunisian Authorities after the NCA election, IFES and UNDP, in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs (MSA) of Tunisia, have organized two training workshops for MSA staff on civic education for Illiterate voters. These workshops complement what IFES has been doing for the past year to develop a training curriculum and tools to reach out for illiterate voters in Tunisia. The MSA, with the support of IFES, has developed an election module for illiterates, which will be incorporated into the regular annual curriculum the MSA uses to teach illiterate populations. This pilot module will be delivered to illiterates by MSA staff trained by IFES.

In the context of the above-mentioned project, IFES and the MSA have organised two 3-day workshops on Civic education for the Illiterate voters. The workshops have been conducted in Hammamet between 17-23/06/2013, and attended by 54 participants representing the teachers of the Adult learning program at the MSA in 16 different governorates in Tunisia.

These two workshops (number 4 and 5 in the program) have followed a framework developed for the first set of workshops. The facilitation team comprised four BRIDGE facilitators who participated in the preparation and delivery of the two workshops:

4. Mohamed Achouri – (Tunisia)

In this workshop, Mr. Achouri completed the fieldwork required to get the full accreditation status and, therefore, has passed to a workshop facilitator level. Congratulations!
