Voter and Civic Education Workshop, Kenya, April 2018

This workshop was conducted with the support of the IFES, UNDP, and UNWOMEN. The 29 participants included HQ and field staff from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, civil society representatives and IFES staff.

The workshop, which is part of a series of BRIDGE modules to be run in Kenya, aimed to:

1. Enhance skills of the selected staff and key electoral stakeholders, using the BRIDGE professional development methodology.
2. Ensure the accreditation of both BRIDGE workshop facilitators and a small pool of accrediting facilitators.
3. Facilitate reflection on the issue of inclusion of women, youth and persons with disabilities in planning and designing voter and civic education activities
4. To have fun!!!!

The level of participation and engagement was quite high throughout. Many noted that they were very impressed with both the substantive content as well as the BRIDGE methodology. Forty percent of the participants were women, and there were also a diversity of ages and levels of understanding, which allowed for the sharing of experience and expertise among participants. One participant stated: “Masterful content generation and content delivery!”

On the last day each of the participating organizations presented the voter education strategy outlines that they had developed during the course, which they will subsequently integrate and implement through a cooperative platform.

The facilitators for the course were Deryck Fritz, IFES Senior Management Specialist, who was the lead facilitator, Immaculate Kassait, IEBC Director of Voter Registration and Electoral Operations, workshop facilitator, and two TTF-complete facilitators: Ann Nderitu, IEBC Manager, Electoral Training, and Albert Gogo Nguma, IEBC County Manager.
