Introduction to Electoral Administration

7-10 October 2024

South Sudan

The United Nations Integrated Electoral Assistance Team (IEAT) in South Sudan held a four-day BRIDGE workshop on introduction to electoral administration in Juba from October 7-10, 2024. Led by facilitators Natia Kashakashvili and Shalva Tskhakaya, the workshop hosted 23 participants (13 female, 10 male) from various CSOs. The training covered key electoral concepts such as the electoral cycle, legal frameworks, electoral systems, and election management bodies (EMBs). Participants also explored topics like gender equality, disability rights, and voter education.

The workshop was highly praised for its practical approach and engaging methodology, with small group discussions fostering interaction and understanding. Participants appreciated the facilitators’ clarity and energy, suggesting more practical sessions, case studies, and extended training duration for deeper learning. Feedback highlighted the relevance of the content to South Sudan, though some participants requested simpler language, localized examples, and Arabic translations for future workshops. Overall, participants found the workshop informative and called for more capacity-building sessions, particularly on advocacy, women’s rights, and disability inclusion, to prepare for upcoming elections.
