Liberia Legal Framework and Reform Roadmap Review Workshop

3 February - 7 February

Liberia

This Legal Framework and Reform BRIDGE Module Workshop will serve as a critical platform for the NEC to review and refine the draft Legislative Review Roadmap, ensuring it aligns with international obligations and standards. The challenge of introducing reforms while balancing the diverse interests of societal stakeholders underscores the importance of fostering inclusive dialogue. Engaging in open discussions will help build the broad consensus necessary to support and implement these reforms effectively.

By bringing together NEC Senior Management, the Board of Commissioners, and international expertise, the workshop will also focus on:

  • Engagement Strategy: Reviewing strategies for engaging key stakeholders—government bodies, political parties, civil society, and the public—will be crucial for building trust and support for the reforms.
  • International Expertise: Identifying areas where international expertise can provide valuable insights, particularly where global best practices and standards could enhance Liberia’s electoral processes.

Additionally, the NEC’s strong track record from the 2023 elections, widely regarded as exemplary, enhances the commission’s credibility in this reform process. This success offers a solid foundation for driving forward with reforms that further improve and modernize Liberia’s electoral system.

This activity was implemented by the UNDP Liberia Electoral Support Project in collaboration with the National Elections Commission and European Partnership for Democracy, with the co-funding of the European Union, Irish Aid and the Embassy of Sweden in Liberia.
