The Independent Electoral Commission Lesotho is organizing a BRIDGE Modular workshop for groups of political parties that are registered with the commission under the National Assembly Electoral Act. The workshop is scheduled to take place from 15-18 July 2025 in Maseru, Lesotho. The objective of this modular training is to capacitate political parties’ Secretary Generals (parties’ administrators) on general management of political parties; their roles, strategy development, how to effectively structure, creating understanding of the rules of political parties including legal, political and cultural elements that influence and affect the political parties’ functions. The training also aims to look at the relationship of political parties with the regulator the EMB. The roles of EMBs in regulation, monitoring, control, and operation of political parties will be explored.
The rationale behind the module is to equip Secretaries General with knowledge and skills on effective management of political parties to enable them to manage their parties’ affairs in accordance to the laws and policies in place as well as and to address non-compliance with the National Assembly Electoral Act (on registration requirements) and enable accountability on campaign and political party funding. It is also meant to expose Secretaries General on best practices and international standards of managing political parties while participating in the electoral process.
