Train the Facilitator Course for the

Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa

From 18 to 29 August 2025, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa embarked on a comprehensive long term strategic framework for capacity building and development of staff, using the BRIDGE model as part of its Training Strategy to enhance institutional human resource development. The commission rolled out the BRIDGE Train the Facilitator (TtF) course to 18 members of Provincial and National Office staff enhancing their ability to achieve the strategic goals of the Commission. This training came at an opportune time when the country is gearing up for the Local Government Elections planned for in 2026.

The program focused on preparation for workshops, equipping participants with practical facilitation skills and providing learning assessment tools, underpinned by principles of adult learning and innovative engagement methods “the BRIDGE way”. This approach not only enhanced their facilitation methodologies but also encouraged collaboration bringing out creativity among them throughout the course. The workshop successfully provided participants with frequent opportunities to receive feedback and evaluate their performance, which contributed to raising awareness of their strengths and areas for improvement. The success of this workshop was evidenced in the active engagement and remarkable commitment of all participants, who demonstrated enthusiasm and seriousness throughout the training period. Such interest contributed to developing trust and cooperation among all participants, positively impacting the quality of performance which assisted in achieving the objectives of the workshop.

The TtF was delivered by two Accrediting BRIDGE facilitators, Dr Bridget Masuluke, Ms Tomsie Dlamini and workshop facilitator and internal IEC staff, Ms Thuli Kholisa.
