BRIDGE Modular Workshop on Introduction to Electoral Administration

The UN Integrated Elecotral Asistance Team, led by the UN Mission to South Sudan (UNMISS), implemented a three-day BRIDGE Introduction to Electoral Administration workshop for several key election stakeholders in Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA), one of the three administrative areas in South Sudan. The overaraching goal of this modular workshop was to strengthen the capacity of members of the National Elections Commmission, CSOs, media and other stakeholders, in execution of their respective roles during the electoral process.
The workshop was conducted by three BRIDGE facililtors from the continent, Aiah Mattia, Cherer Shaffo and Utloile Silaigwana, and took place from 6-8 June attracting a total of 27 participants (7 women and 20 men) representing various stakeholders.
The workshop aimed to enhance understanding of key electoral standards, principles, and management techniques. The objectives included:
– Exploring electoral standards and international obligations.
– Understanding the legal framework in the electoral context.
– Examining various EMB models and their functions.
– Promoting equal access to electoral processes.
– Introducing electoral operational planning methodologies.
– Discussing the importance of voter and civic education programmes.
The BRIDGE workshop was one of a series of workshops being implemented throughout South Sudan, which has received highly positive feedback from participants. Similar to the other workshops in South Sudan, the GPAA workshop also reciveid a high level of praise. The attendees admired the training for its partcipatory apporach, which helped them to engage in team work and collaborate with each other. The facilitators were also commended for delivering a well-organized and engaging programme.
