BRIDGE on the River Niger

The Republic of Mali is in the process of planning its local government elections. And as part of a project funded by USAID, IFES Mali organised the first ever BRIDGE Train the Facilitator workshop in Mali from 14 to 25 March 2016 in Segou, a town on the banks of the River Niger and 250 km from Bamako, the capital city. The three EMBs in Mali, namely the Ministry of Territorial Administration, the General Delegation for Elections and the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) were represented at this training, in addition to a staff of IFES, and representatives of civil society. All 21 participants, who received certificates of semi-accreditation, had also previously participated in, at least one BRIDGE modular workshop.

This training was conducted by Theophilus Dowetin, Alexandra Hovelacque and Boussourou Drame.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Councillor for Administrative and Legal Affairs of the Governorate of the Segou Region, Abocar Abdoulaye Toure, the Chairman of the CENI, Mamadou Diamoutani and the acting Country Director of IFES-Mali, Andry RANOHAVIMBOAHANGY, who was also a participant.

IFES Mali had already organized three modular BRIDGE workshops in the country in 2013 and 2014.

Le Mali est en train de planifier les élections locales. Dans le cadre d’un projet financé par l’USAID, IFES Mali a un ateliers de formation des formateurs BRIDGE du 14 au 25 mars 2016 à Ségou, une ville située au bord de fleuve Niger et a 250 km de Bamako, la capitale du Mali. Les trois OGE du Mali, à savoir le Ministère de l’Administration Territoriale, la Délégation Générale aux Elections et la Commission Electorale Nationale Indépendante ont été représentés dans cette formation en plus d’un staff de IFES, et des représentants de la société civile. En tout, les 21 participants qui ont d’ailleurs tous participée a au moins un atelier modulaire on reçu leur certificat de semi accréditation à la fin.

Cette formation a été conduite par Theophilus Dowetin et Alexandra Hovelacque.

La cérémonie d’ouverture a été présidée par le conseiller aux Affaires Administratives et Juridiques du Gouvernorat de la région de Ségou, Monsieur Abdoulaye Abocar TOURE, le président de la CENI et participant a la formation, Mamadou DIAMOUNTANI et le Directeur Pays par intérim de IFES qui a été également participant, Andry RANOHAVIMBOAHANGY.

IFES Mali a déjà organisé trois ateliers modulaires BRIDGE en 2013 et 2014.
