Customized Introduction to Electoral Administration for Electoral Commission of Zambia Staff

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in partnership with the United National Development Programme (UNDP) Democracy Strengthening in Zambia (DSZ) Project organised a Customised BRIDGE modular workshop for 25 ECZ members of staff on Electoral Administration from 2nd September to 6th September 2024 in Lusaka, Zambia. The Workshop was aimed at enhancing the capacity of members of staff of the Electoral Commission of Zambia in preparation for the conduct of various electoral activities ahead of the 2026 General Election.
The workshop was officially opened by the Chief Electoral Officer Mr Brown Kasaro who was accompanied by Director of Electoral operations Mr Royd Katongo. In his opening remarks, Mr Kasaro encouraged the participants to participate actively and be able to share their experiences. The CEO urged participants to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop in their day today activities and operations.
Twenty Five (9 men and 16 women) ECZ staff participated in the workshop which was facilitated by Workshop Facilitators, Ms Emma Mwiinga, Mr Mataa Sikota, Ms Sylvia Bwalya and Mrs Anna Mulenga Nkaka.
The workshop covered a wide range of topics which included Elections in a global context, Electoral systems, Electoral management bodies, delimitation, voter registration, electoral planning, election security, cyber security and information, stakeholder inclusion and voter education and building institutional excellence in elections. Detailed discussions were done during the training in relation to the Zambian context. Handouts and participant notes were given to participants. Other Information provided included the BRIDGE and the ACE project websites where participants could access information. The workshop sessions were highly interactive with active participation of all the participants.
The participants demonstrated enthusiasm and creativity during implementation of various activities on the Agenda. In addition, participants expressed their commitment to apply the knowledge acquired in the training in their work.
‘The facilitators were engaging and used interactive adult learning methodologies that kept us engaged.’ remarked one of the participants as she gave a vote of thanks.
The end of course evaluation revealed the overall satisfaction of the participants on the bridge methodology, content design and customisation of content to the local context.
During the official closing of the workshop the CEO thanked the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) who were the funding partners for the activity. He also thanked the facilitators and the participants for the successful conduct of the workshop.
