Gender and Elections Bridge training-Djerba-Tunisia

5 January 2015

A four-day BRIDGE workshop on Gender and elections was held in Djarba, Tunis , from 7 to 10 December 2014. This activity was organized jointly by IFES and UNDP Libya, in the framework of its Electoral Project UNSET.

Eighteen participants, among which thirteen were women (72.22%), came from different regions in Libya to take part in this workshop. The participants, who were mostly very active in the Libyan civil society and have ties with the HNEC, took part in this workshop to pool their experiences on these critical topics, extending their skills and knowledge in preparation for future electoral processes. The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) has contributed to the strengthening of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) during the last few years through the implementation of projects that would enhance the capacity building of High National Elections Commission and contribute to an inclusive political participation.

By supporting a capacity-building initiative and providing technical recommendations, the project aimed to enhance HNEC staff member’s electoral management performance, as well as to support the achievement of a more inclusive electoral participation process, in particular increasing engagement of women.

The workshop was highly appreciated by the participants especially the Bridge methodology and its participative way to transfer knowledge.

The workshop was co-facilitated by 3 international facilitators: Anan Sorri, Hafiz Kheir and Samia Mahgoub.
