Independent Assessment of BRIDGE underway

19 November 2013

Although BRIDGE has been in existence for over a decade, to-date there has been no independent assessment of BRIDGE’s functioning and effectiveness. In 2013 the BRIDGE partners therefore decided to commission an assessment. Such an initiative will not only chart the evolution of BRIDGE since its early days, and consider its usefulness, but also provide perspectives and ideas on the challenges and opportunities for BRIDGE in a rapidly changing global environment as BRIDGE moves into its second decade.

Two individuals with long experience in elections, democracy and governance activities as well as monitoring and evaluation have been selected to conduct this assessment; Robin Ludwig, a former UN official and Edward McMahon, a consultant and professor of international development at the University of Vermont in the US.

The evaluation seeks to assess the conceptualization, objectives, implementation and impact of BRIDGE to-date. The project began in October 2013 and a final report is scheduled to be produced by May, 2014. During this time the evaluators will review BRIDGE documentation and history and consult with BRIDGE stakeholders around the world. In addition to document review and key informant interviews, two surveys will be conducted with BRIDGE facilitators and participants.

Dr. Ludwig and Professor McMahon welcome your submission of views on BRIDGE’s functioning. They can be reached at rludwig19@ gmail.com and/or emcmahon@uvm.edu.

Should you be contacted by them, the BRIDGE Partners and BRIDGE Office would appreciate your assistance, cooperation and candid perspective regarding BRIDGE
