Managing Electoral Processes

IFES Uzbekistan with the financial support of USAID and in cooperation with the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Republic of Uzbekistan held the workshop on Managing Electoral Processes (Operational Planning module) for the representatives of Central Election Commission on managerial positions during 2-3 March, 2022 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The workshop aimed to introduce to the international principles of voting operations and approaches to Electoral Operations Planning.

During the workshop participants have assessed the certain examples of the voting operations from different countries from the perspective of the international obligations of the elections and voting operation guiding principles; importance of planning as one of the components of the “ideal” electoral process; components of electoral operational planning, electoral risk management; time-management for the activities defined within the operational planning as well as managing team members and applying certain leadership skills.

Participants have fully engaged and enjoyed group-work activities. Participants have noted as the most useful/valuable aspects of the course: detailed analysis of the principles of elections; concept of ideal electoral process; electoral cycle and importance of planning; prioritizing tasks (time-management), etc. Participants have stated the readiness to use the gained knowledge in their work, e.g., to plan the work of the PR department; conducting the Risk assessment and planning for the plan B activities. Participants have praised the methodology of the workshop and professionally organized workshop. Most of the participants have requested further trainings on other topics with the same methodology.

At the end of the workshop, participants were granted certificates of completing the modular workshop.
