NETHERLANDS INSTITUTE FOR MULTI-PARTY DEMOCRACY (NIMD) TTF FOR ETHIOPIA AND SOMALIA

28 May - 7 May

Ethiopia

NIMD received financial support from the European Union in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya to build the capacity of electoral parties on the electoral cycle. The support is to build capacities on electoral processes and the BRIDGE course will enhance NIMD regional staff, electoral stakeholders, the Electoral Commission staff and the Commission for the Registration of Political Associations staff and consultants as they will offer technical assistance as well.

The major component of the EU support in this roll-out plan is geared towards the Somalia Commission for the Registration of Political Associations (CRPAANP)’s five-year strategic plan which is to develop the institutional ability to support political parties and provide the appropriate training on electoral processes. However, the Commission was appointed in January 2022 and approved by parliament in June 2022, so it is still new and political associations and parties have great expectations that it will provide the necessary capacity.

In this sense, the TtF will help NIMD to support CRPAANP and Ethiopia project to prepare their team better to give political parties the necessary training on relevant electoral modules such as voter registration, civic and voter education.
