ECP holds workshop on BRIDGE Module ‘Electoral Systems’

Islamabad:  Election Commission of Pakistan, under the aegis of Pakistan’s Electoral Academy for Democratic Practices, Research & Management (PADRM), conducted a three-day workshop from 31st August to 2nd September, 2026, on the BRIDGE Module “Electoral Systems”. The workshop was aimed at imparting conceptual knowledge and practical exposure to best global electoral practices and systems to 21 participants out of 42 newly recruited election administers, who were divided in two groups of 21 each. In terms of gender balance, the group contained 12 male and 9 female participants. BRIDGE component, comprising two modules, Electoral Systems and Operational Planning, was part of an overall extensive training programme designed to prepare and equip the participants with necessary learning and skills set before they embark on the long journey of professional career to practice, administer and oversee electoral processes.

2.      The Module contents for both workshops were tailored according to the learning needs and understanding of participants, who came from diverse regional background with high level of academic qualification. The workshop covered all thematic areas, such as the Underlying Principles of Electoral Systems, Basics of Electoral Systems, Three Common Types of Electoral Systems, Other Types of Electoral Systems, Implications of Different Electoral Systems and Comparing Electoral Systems and Reforms.

3.      The participants thoroughly enjoyed the BRIDGE methodology and enthusiastically participated in all activities, practical exercises, group work, debates and quiz competition designed for each session. In the last session, the participants in four groups drafted a separate comprehensive Reform Plan aimed at revisiting and improving various local electoral systems for meaningful participation of electorate, across the ethnic and socio-political spectrums.

5.      The module was delivered by a team of all local facilitators, led by Mr. Aziz Bahadar, Accrediting Facilitator as lead facilitator, Mr. Muhammad Yousuf, Workshop Facilitator, Mr. Abdul Qadir, TtF-complete and Mr. Naveed-ur-Rehman, TtF-complete, who all belong to the Election Commission of Pakistan. At the completion workshop, Mr. Abdul Qadir attained the level from Workshop Facilitator, after fulfilling the criteria and he was awarded recognition certificate.
